Meters
Chauvin Arnoux C.A 1110, on iPhone and iPad.
The C.A 1110 is a handheld lux meter made by Chauvin Arnoux, with its sensor on a coiled lead. It connects to Luxwork, a lighting survey app, over Bluetooth, and readings arrive on the plan as you take them. Luxwork is launching on iPhone and iPad in autumn 2026.
What comes across the link
- Each reading, as the meter measures it. It lands on the point you are standing at. If the link drops, Luxwork won't record the last number left on screen. It waits for a fresh reading.
- The meter's serial number. Luxwork reads it before it will record anything, so every reading is tied to the instrument that took it.
- The light-source setting the meter is on. The C.A 1110 has settings for LED and fluorescent light as well as its default. Luxwork records which one was in use with every reading.
- The battery level. Shown on the capture screen while you work, so a flat battery doesn't catch you out halfway round. It doesn't go on the report.
The C.A 1110 doesn't tell Luxwork when HOLD is on, so leave HOLD off while you survey.
Before you start
From the maker's manual:
- Take the protective cap off the sensor.
- Switch the meter on with a long press on the power key.
- Turn on Bluetooth with a long press on the HOLD key. No pairing is needed.
- Choose the light-source setting with the SRC key, to match the lamps on site.
Keep the sensor on the measurement plane and stand back on the lead, so your body isn't between the sensor and the light. How to do a workplace lighting survey covers the rest of the method.
What the report records
- The meter's make, model and serial number.
- The calibration certificate you recorded for that serial number, and whether it was in date on the day. Record the certificate once, and every reading from that meter carries it.
- The light-source setting. If it changed during the survey, or doesn't match the light source you recorded for the site, the report says so.
- Each reading, at its point, with the time it was taken.
What a lighting survey report should contain shows the rest of the report on a specimen.
The meter's limits, in the maker's figures
Every figure here is the maker's own, from the C.A 1110 user manual. We haven't tested them.
| Measuring range | 0.1 to 200,000 lux. It can also display foot-candles. |
|---|---|
| Finest resolution | 0.1 lux, on its lowest range. |
| Accuracy, as the maker states it | 3% of the reading, plus or minus 2 display points. |
| With the LED setting | 4% on 4000 K LEDs. Up to 6% on other LEDs from 3000 to 6000 K. |
| With the fluorescent setting | 4% on F11 fluorescent tubes. Up to 9% on other fluorescent types. |
| Sensor lead | Coiled, 24 to 120 cm. |
| Bluetooth | Bluetooth 4.2 low energy. About 10 m in normal use. |
| Power | Three AA batteries. The maker quotes about 500 hours with Bluetooth off. |
| Size and weight | 150 × 72 × 32 mm, about 345 g. |
The 2 display points are a fixed amount, so in very low light they are a large share of the reading. If your work includes very low light levels, such as emergency escape lighting, check what instrument your client's specification asks for first.
Luxwork's status
Luxwork is launching on iPhone and iPad in autumn 2026. Until then, the C.A 1110 works on its own and with the maker's own software.
Test Luxwork before launch
Testing is on iPhone and iPad. We'll invite testers in small groups through Apple's TestFlight.
Chauvin Arnoux makes the C.A 1110. Luxwork is made by UberVisor Ltd and is not a Chauvin Arnoux product. The meters page says how readings get into Luxwork. It says nothing about how good a meter is.
