Film
A lighting survey, from the first point to the signed report.
The captions are part of the picture, so they show whenever the film plays. The full transcript is below. Luxwork is not released yet: it is launching in autumn 2026, and you can join the beta list to test it before then. Also on YouTube (opens in a new tab). The readings come from your meter. In the film, a Hioki FT3425 sends each reading over Bluetooth. Luxwork does not measure light itself, and any calibrated meter can be used by typing its readings in.
-
The report states each requirement and where the survey came in against it. One was met and one was not. It does not stamp pass or fail; whether the building is good enough is the surveyor's call.
-
Capturing, judging and reading the report will be free. Issuing the signed PDF is the part you pay for, and the price will be set out before anyone is asked to pay it.
-
The survey in the film is a demonstration. Its 57 readings are specimen data, and it is a different invented survey from the 36-point one on the home page. Sequences are shortened.

0:00 [On screen: Two jobs.] A lighting survey is two jobs, not one. There is the one you were hired for, and the one nobody bills for.
0:08 [On screen: One job.] Luxwork is a lighting survey app, built so the second job does not happen.
0:14 [On screen: Nobody bills for this.] Back at the office, somebody re-types your numbers, works out the average, the uniformity and the maintenance factor, draws the plan and places the points.
0:23 [On screen: Two people.] [On screen: A second person.] [On screen: Fifty-seven, again.] Most people do not do this alone. One of you is at the meter calling out numbers, the other stands back and plots where you are. It works, and it costs you a second person for the whole visit. Then you drive back, and somebody types all fifty-seven in again.
0:41 [On screen: The points place themselves.] Before you walk the area you draw it, and Luxwork lays the measuring points out for you, to the method you chose.
0:48 [On screen: Two meters over Bluetooth. Any calibrated meter, typed in.] [On screen: On its own.] This meter talks to Luxwork over Bluetooth. Put the sensor on the point, step back a couple of metres, and the reading arrives on its own.
1:00 [On screen: No shadow on the point.] [On screen: Every reading, sourced.] Over Bluetooth, you never lean over the meter, so you're never standing in the light you're measuring. And the reading arrives with the instrument's serial number and calibration record attached.
1:13 [On screen: Point 8 · 73.9 lx, judged against a 100 lx minimum. Sequences shortened.] The plan shades in as you walk. Point eight reads low, and you can see it reads low while you are standing on it. Retake it, or write down why it is dark, and it costs you ten seconds.
1:25 [On screen: 231.2 lx, average of 57 readings, judged against 200 lx. 73.9 lx, lowest, at point 8, judged against 100 lx. Figures from HSG38, Lighting at Work (HSE).] Two requirements were considered. The average came in above the figure it was judged against. The minimum came in below, and the app said so while you were standing on it.
1:37 [On screen: One person. One visit.] Take the last reading and sign it. One person, one visit, and the report is done before you are back at the van.
1:45 [On screen: We did not make the write-up faster. There isn’t one.] [On screen: Your call.] We did not make the write-up faster. There isn't one. Luxwork compares each reading with the figure you chose. Whether the building is good enough is your call.
1:55 [On screen: Never re-typed. No paper. Signed.] Three things fall out of that. Nothing is re-typed, so nothing is mistyped. There's no paper in it: no printed sheets, no printed plans, nothing to file. Which is more environmentally friendly than a clipboard and a printer. And the record is signed.
2:13 [On screen: What it costs · luxwork.app. You pay to issue the signed PDF report.] Luxwork will be free to use. Capturing the survey, judging it, reading the report on screen and exporting your own data all stay free. Issuing the signed PDF is the one thing you pay for, and the price will be on luxwork.app before anyone is asked to pay.
2:29 [On screen: The report is finished when the walk is. Try it on your next survey. luxwork.app. Demonstration with specimen data. iPhone and iPad are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries and regions.] The report is finished when the walk is. Try it on your next survey. luxwork.app.
